The Climactic *GIVEAWAY*!!: Angela Morrison Month [CLOSED]

THAT is the Sing Me To Sleep trailer. It's nice how they actually got actors to perform instead of simply putting up random pictures. I kinda got tired seeing Chace Crawford pictures over so many book trailers on YouTube. Don't get me wrong, I had my share of fangirling for him too, but too much of anything is bad, and too much of Chace Crawford in my system also had its adverse effect. *Sorry Chace!*

Anyway.

As part of Angela Morrison Month, I had an interview and a review. Now comes the climax.

Sorry, I'm a bit slow on stopping by and answering those questions. Let's see . . .

Adiee, my favorite YA is still THE BOOK THIEF by Markus Zusak. He's a genius. Australian. And the cutest author I've ever met.

And for bookaholic, my favorite song of all time? I'm a musical omnivore, so this is a tough one. My favorite broadway song is "On My Own." My favorite pop song is "Beautiful Disaster," by Kelly Clarkson. I love Celtic music, too. There's a cut the Amabile boys' did of Robert Burns, "My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose," on my website. But, I am so excited about their recording of my own song from SING, "Beth's Song," that that's all I can listen to these days.

The Amabile boys are recording Beth's Song?!! That's something I really want to hear..the lyrics are so pure and soul stirring....

Angela Morrison said...

Bookaholic . . . stop in at my website and you can hear more of their recording of "Beth's Song" than is on the trailer. There's a segment on the welcome page and another segment--featuring the Amabile guys backing up the Amazing AYS soloist, Shayna Follington--if you click on SING's cover. Actually, I put that soundtrack all over my recent posts on ChatSpot, too. You'll be able to download the whole recording on iTunes soon.

Angela Morrison said...

Deltay, Muse on vacation? Go with it!! As writers we are constantly pouring out everything we know, love, learn, dream, experience into our work. Our muses need nourishment. Julia Cameron, in THE WRITER'S WAY--the best book about writer's block in the universe, suggests taking our muse or inner artist on a date every week. Something fun, crazy, simple. But it should be just you and your artist. Then force yourself to write morning pages--three pages of long hand first thing in the morning. Dump everything in your brain. You'll be amazed what begins to come out.

For mini-blocks--you get stuck midstream--try taking a nap to get your brain back into slower, more creative rhythms, taking a walk or a drive, or putting on some music and dancing around the room.

Freewrites (see WRITING DOWN THE BONES by Natalie Goldberg) are also great for getting our muse back to work. You can get the basics of freewriting on my liv2writ blog on my website.

Oh, Marion. Let me clarify the "facial scars." Beth's got awful acne--"a face full of zits" in her words. Nothing her dermatologist has prescribed has helped. I'm not sure why marketing calls her acne "facial scars." I figure we can all relate to zits, spots, pimples--whatever you want to call them--most of us have them to some degree. Even one nasty breakout is demoralizing. Beth's continually fighting it all over her face. Beth is a classic anti-hero--well, anti-heroine. I think that's why readers love her so much.

Question: Are there any other genre's that you are interested in writing ?

+3 Question

Angela Morrison said...

Good question, Linda. My real passion is historical fiction. I'm revising a romantic historical YA inspired by my Scottish coal mining roots. I love sci-fi and fantasy with strong historical influence, too. I'm also rewriting a time-slip novel. It's going to end up something like Jane Eyre meets the Terminator--but my assassin is way hot. I originally wrote it as an adventure for tween boys, but the assassin turned out too hot to waste on 12-year-old boys!

bookaholic said...

Woah! You so intrigued me with that Jane Eyre-meets-Terminator plot!! You have really piqued my interest! Yet another great idea..where do you get them from?!?? And another hot guy? Wow,I am so much more interested now... ;)Get the book written and published fast so that we can enjoy it too...my impatience is killing me!!

bookaholic said...

And yes!!I so enjoyed whatever I could hear of Beth's Song with my poor connection..dying to get back to it again after this darn thing has been repaired!!

Angela said...

Bookaholic . . most of my ideas come from desperation!! What is wrong with this story? How can I fix it so it isn't bleck? My ideas usually start out pretty lame. But the more I revise and rework it, I HOPE the better it gets. I'm excited to work on the Jane Eyre-mets-the Terminator, too. I think that twist is exactly what this novel needs to make it work.

Hi Jessy! Thanks for the question. I always wanted to be a writer growing up. In high school, I went to fiction writing workshops and met real writers who encouraged me and cool guys who wrote, too. I majored in English at BYU and discovered editing, but I also got married and started having babies. I kept my writing dream alive through a couple of decades of being a full-time mom. When my youngest son went to school, so did I. I enrolled in Vermont College's Master of Fine Arts of Writing for Children and Young Adults. It's a low-residency program. There I was mentored by some of the best writers in the business. I wrote TAKEN BY STORM as my creative thesis. It took me three and a half years of rejection and pulling it apart and reshaping it before I finally met my editor and signed with Razorbill. Hooray! Happy ending. Well, happy beginning.

bookaholic said...

I know its a sort of personal question but still...did you get the idea of Derek's cystic fibrosis from Matt or did you already have a plot of such kind in your mind?

bookaholic said...

Bee,now that you have reached 50+ followers, don't you think you should host some other great giveaways? ;)

Angela said...

Bookaholic . . . careful, we don't want to ruin the plot for anyone. But Matt inspired the book and it is dedicated to him. Read the Author's Note at the end of the novel, okay?

bookaholic said...

Angela,I have read the book and the Author's Note too..was really touching. I so loved the book that I am dying to own a copy! It's such a wonderful book and so beautifully written that I am sure anyone and everyone will love it(nothing can ruin the interest in the story..the narrative is totally gripping!!).. :D

I want a copy nevertheless,so that I can read and reread it again and again...as many times as I want!! :D :D
